Antique German Stoneware and Pewter Stein, Circa 1880, Regensburg

This heavy, gray bodied salt glazed beer stein was made in Germany circa 1880.The stoneware mug of Regensburg or Westerwald was made with a hand applied handle and relief designs.This one includes a saying on the body and a detailed pewter lid that uniquely features a tavern hall scene with a group of people toasting.The body of the ½ liter stein reads (in German translation), “Seeing you again is our hope…Separation is our loss.”

The stein is in mint condition.There is no damage of any kind.The lid, however, does not close to sit perfectly straight on the top rim (see photos).Owner name engraving on the lid.
