This a large scale Samoan wooden Kava bowl.Kava bowls are hand carved from a single piece of wood and used for mixing a sedative drink made from the roots of the kava plant. Bowls of this type are important symbols of Samoan hospitality. This particular bowl has very nice detail carved into the perimeter as well as mother-of-pearl inlay.Great patina to wood.
