Home Tableware & Barware | Vintage English Art Deco Coffee & Tea Service- 4 Pieces - MJ83881
Availability: In Stock
This English Art Deco coffee and tea service was produced by Cooper Brothers of Sheffield in about 1935. Crafted of silver plate with wood handles and finials, it consists of a coffee jug, teapot, sugar bowl and creamer. It would have been in use when King George XI, father of today's Queen Elizabeth, was on the throne. It most likely heard his speech announcing the country's entry into World War II along with the family gathered around the radio, sipping their tea for strength and comfort. In addition to its classically Art Deco lines, the set is distinguished by a narrow frieze of alternating squares and flowers running along the skirt of the coffee jug and the rims of the other three pieces. The sugar bowl lid is missing and the set bears a few minor dings and scratches and some tarnish, commensurate with its many years of service, but it is in overall very good condition.
