Home Tableware & Barware | Windsorware Pomona Tea Cup & Saucers Ironstone Set- 20 Pieces YL48141

Johnson Brothers were one of THE companies to create the original ironstone designs. This is from their Windsorware division. They utilized a design called transferware that a tissue-thin piece of acid-free paper, printed with a type of glaze ink could be laid onto the ceramic piece while damp. After being allowed to dry in place, an artist would then hand apply the colors over the tissue in the accepted design. After being allowed to dry, the piece would then be dipped in a high shine liquid mix of water and finely ground glass. After allowing that to dry, the piece would be fired, which would seal the picture in, and make the piece waterproof. Unless broken, of course. There is one itsy bitsy chip- roughly a pinhead large- on one of the handles, and a few areas of low glaze on a couple of the saucers. They have no crazing whatsoever. I debated doing 8 cups and 8 saucers but decided whoever got this would rather have spares than I would like to keep them. SO, there are 8 cups and 12 saucers. The cups are 4.75"w x 4"d x 2.5"h, the saucers are 5.5w x 5.5d x .75"h.
I have other pieces from this design in my store. If you follow me on Chairish, you'll get notifications about discounts and new items.
